Smoke & Mirrors is a companion site to City of Smoke, William Bryk’s collection of essays on New York City history. It is primarily an archive of essays on theater and popular culture by Mimi Kramer-Bryk, covering the years between 1987 and 2003. From 1996 to 2003, Kramer wrote about theater and popular culture for the alternative weekly New York Press. Before that, she was a drama critic for The New Yorker magazine for six years. From 1983 to 1986 she wrote the theater column for the monthly arts review The New Criterion. She and William Bryk are married and live in Brooklyn.
